ABC's of Sea Explorers
A- Arrival/Assistants
-We will eat breakfast at 8:30. You may pack your child breakfast from home or pay for a school breakfast. The cost for breakfast is $1.25.
-Our assistants are: Mrs. Sharon and Mrs. Vance.
B - Behavior
-Students are expected to follow school-wide/classroom behavior standards. A detailed explanation will be sent home and we will review the behavior plan at Open House. Students will have clips that move up and down during the day based on behavior. The final color will be in their communication/homework folder. All students start on green each day. Appropriate behavior will be at the Ready to Learn level or higher.
-A daily folder containing a Conduct Chart will be sent home with your child's behavior marked for the day.
C-Communication
-A homework folder will be sent home each day. Please check for notes, etc. Also, please initial in the appropriate box each day. Please feel free to send in notes, email at [email protected], or call.
D-Dismissal
-Our buses dismiss around 2:20 each day. For students who are parent pick up we will escort your child to the pick up lines, if student has siblings in the school we will dismiss at the same time as sibling.
-If it is necessary for you to check your child out early, please go to the front office and they will call our room.
E- Expectations
-Very high expectations are set for students to help them become responsible for their own behavior, personal belongings, and learning. We will teach the expectations, routines and procedures!!
F- Fun/Family
-Learning should be FUN!!
- We are also a family. Many of our students will spend more than one year together.
G-Grading
-Students in grades K-2nd will receive a standards based report card to show what skills they have mastered. 3rd graders will receive grades as a percent and letter grade. Work will be sent home about once a week. You will receive IEP goals and an interim or report card about every 4 weeks.
H-Homework
-Students should read or have a book read to them each evening. There will also be additional homework given most days of the week. We will have spelling patterns and sight word practice on a regular basis, more information to follow.
I-Information from School
-Please review all items in the daily folder and return the necessary items promptly.
-I will also send out messages via email and text message.
-You may sign up for Remind 101 and receive announcement text messages from the teacher. Text (442)333-7465 and send the message @mrskast
J-Jackets, Sweaters, etc
-Please send in a jacket or sweater to keep in the classroom. Students sometimes get cold from the AC.
K-Keeping in Touch
-Communication is very important. You may contact me through notes attached to your child’s daily folder, by emailing me, or by calling the school. Please leave a voicemail and I will return your call as soon as possible.
-Email is probably the quickest way to communicate as I try to check it a few times a day. [email protected]
L-Lunch (and Breakfast)
-School breakfast is $1.25 and lunch is $1.75 per day. Breakfast and lunch can be prepaid online, or with cash or check at the school. Prepayment is strongly encouraged so that your child does not have to carry money.
-If you do need to send in money for your child's account, please send all money in a sealed envelope or baggie with your child’s name written on it.
-Forgotten lunches or money can be dropped off in the office.
M- Monthly News and Announcements
-Our classroom news and announcements will be available online. Go to the Class Sites tab on OVE’s Website, and then click on "Website" under my name.
-The website will include skills for the month, a list of events, and messages from the teacher.
-If you are unable to access the internet, please let me know so that I can send home a paper copy.
-You may sign up for Remind 101 and receive announcement text messages from the teacher. Text (442)333-7465 and send the message @mrskast
N- Needs (Individuals and Classroom)
O-Outside Recess
-Students will have at least one 30 minute period of outside recess daily (weather permitting).
-Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.
P-Parties
-Students will get to pick something to cook in class on their birthday. If you would like to send in something additional for a birthday celebration, please notify me.
Q-Questions
-I am available for conferences, questions, phone calls, etc.
R-Reading at Home
-Please read to your child daily. This will improve your child’s language development, give him/her a love of books, and will prepare him/her for learning to read. We go to the library every Thursday (most weeks). Your child may check out two books each week. One book will be an Accelerated Reader (AR) book on their level and the other is a free choice book. They will take an AR test each week.
S- Snacks
-Please feel free to send in class snacks or individual snacks for your child.
T-Transportation
-Please notify me in writing if your child is to go home a different way than they normally do. Just send a note in your child’s daily folder!
U-Unexcused Absences
-Students will be marked unexcused for an absence until a note is sent in showing an excused reason for the absence.
V-Volunteers
-Volunteers are greatly appreciated! Let me know if you are interested in volunteering.
-There will be many opportunities throughout the year for parents to volunteer in our classroom and in our school.
W-Work
-Your child will be participating in many fun activities throughout the year! We will be singing, moving, painting, cutting, drawing, writing, listening, sharing, reading, counting, and discovering new concepts! Please realize that some of our activities will be MESSY! We will have your child wear a paint shirt or smock, but sometimes accidents still happen!
X-Extra Items
-Extra items needed in the classroom will be listed on the Wish List tab on my website. Remember it is not required to send these items in, but we would appreciate anything you can do to help! Thank you for your support!
